Why is a tooth removed?

Infected tooth

It is important to remove the source of the infection, which is the tooth.  If root canal therapy cannot save the tooth, then removal of the tooth is a viable option.

Broken tooth/teeth

Sometimes a tooth has been compromised to the point of removal.  Whether it's from a cavity or it broke from trauma.  It's critical to remove the tooth before it becomes worse.

Dentures ("plates")

Many teeth may need to be removed before getting your new plates.
